CAA Plays Ball

A partnership between CAA Sports, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, Pequot Ventures and a handful of sports superstars has announced the beta launch of weplay.com, an online youth sports community.

Founding athletes Derek Jeter, Peyton Manning, LeBron James, Tony Parker, Jennie Finch and Shaun Alexander will have an equity stake in the site and CAA’s involvement with weplay.com will allow the agency’s roster of more than 300 athletes additional opportunities to join the venture, according to a statement.

The site, which will be geared to meet the needs of athletes ages 6-16, their parents and coaches, will provide social networking opportunities, media sharing and tools to manage the logistics of youth sports, the statement said. Founding athletes will also have personal profile pages on the site where they can blog and post media.

"Weplay.com is a safe site for kids of all ages that will help them live healthier, more active lives and enhance their experiences," said weplay CEO Steve Hansen.

"With the support of CAA Sports, MLBAM, Pequot Ventures and our founding athletes, weplay.com is well-positioned to successfully launch a comprehensive online environment that unites the youth sports community."
