Roots Folks Win Big

The Roots Agency of Westwood, N.J., was named booking agency of the year at the 2008 Folk Alliance Awards in Memphis. In addition, Roots Agency artist Susan Werner was named best contemporary artist.

"You work very long and hard in this business to achieve a wide acceptance, so when something like this award comes along, you know you’re getting there," said Roots president Tim Drake in a statement.

Also recognized by the Folk Alliance were Carolina Chocolate Drops for emerging artist; Uncle Earl for album of the year; Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, Calif., and Café Lena in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for best small venue; The Ark in Ann Arbor, Mich., for best large venue and the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in New York for best festival.
