Elton Lauded In Sydney

Elton John was presented with a plaque May 12 commemorating his record-breaking 41st show at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

The British superstar had returned to Australia to play two shows in Perth and Broome after an Asian tour. But he flew to Sydney to play a one-off to celebrate the venue’s 25th anniversary.

Sir Elton played there as part of six tours between 1984 to 2006. Before the show, his promoter Michael Chugg threw a party at the venue’s Elton John Suite while Michael Jacobsen, CEO of Arena Management, held another bash also at the venue for 120 high-profile guests.

Just before his encore, Chugg and Jacobsen surprised him with the plaque.
