Fund-raiser For Veteran Roadie

The Sydney music community has rallied around veteran road manager Norm Sweeney, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

"One For The Road," organized by Chugg Entertainment, raised an initial $20,000 for Sweeney’s medical bills June 15 at Bridge Hotel in Rozelle.

Sweeney got his start in the 1960s with Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs and Max Merritt & The Meteors. He worked for Rose Tattoo and Brian Cadd until his illness.

In other good works from the Aussie music community, half a dozen Melbourne acts teamed up June 22 at the Corner Hotel to raise funds for a filmmaker to finish a documentary on the life of The Triffids’ late singer, David McComb. – Bryan Jones
