Red Light’s Renovations

Coran Capshaw’s Charlottesville, Va.-based Red Light Management is restoring the city’s Jefferson Theatre.

Red Light and Ash Lawn Opera Company have stakes in the building, with the opera company leasing it June through August as an opera house and Red Light leasing it the remainder of the year for concerts.

The venue, which was built in the early 1900s, is expected to reopen in 2010 after the $7.5 million renovations. The opera company is expected to raise $4.5 million for the lease improvements.

The theatre will have a silent cooling system, new seating for 500, and a 50-member orchestra pit, along with restoration of the original plaster walls, balconies and fly loft, according to a statement.
