Leiweke Fires Up Team

The Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team, owned by AEG and starring David Beckham, went on a recent spiral and reportedly got an unwanted visit in the locker room.

A source close to the Galaxy told Sports Illustrated that AEG President Tim Leiweke made an unannounced visit after the team lost six games straight and issued an ultimatum: Put more numbers in the win column or face dire consequences.

The team, 6-8-5, lost again at press time.

Consequences could mean a housecleaning including a change in head coach Ruud Gullit, player Landon Donovan or team president Alexi Lalas, SI speculated.

Leiweke and AEG owner Phil Anschutz have made it clear they demand yearly excellence from the Galaxy, the magazine said.
