Glitter Released

British glam rocker Gary Glitter was released from a Vietnamese prison August 19, where he spent two years and nine months after being sentenced for child molestation, and now appears headed to Hong Kong.

Although his Vietnamese lawyer said Glitter was immediately deported back to his home country of Great Britain, police and airline officials reported August 20 that Glitter was headed to the Chinese territory.

The 64-year-old Glitter, real name Paul Francis Gadd, was originally arrested in November 2005 and convicted in March 2006 for committing “obscene acts” with two girls aged 11 and 12 in one of Vietnam’s resort towns.

His three-year sentence was cut by three months as part of the country’s traditional amnesty during Lunar New Year celebrations in 2007.
