Wheeling And Stalling

Efforts to reopen the Capitol Music Hall in Wheeling, W.Va., may have slowed.

Owner Live Nation shuttered the venue in May 2007 and one year later, the Wheeling National Heritage Area Corp. (WNHAC) hired a Washington, D.C., company to study market viability for the venue.

However, WNHAC Executive Director Hydie Friend told the Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register Sept. 27 that she has not heard from the company nor received any feedback from it.

During the summer, Friend told the paper that reopening the 2,474-capacity venue would be vital to the future of downtown Wheeling but now says the Capitol “is not high on my priority list.”

A city councilwoman told the paper she and other council members “have not discussed the Capitol much lately.”
