Gigs & Bytes: SlotMusic Slots Majors For Launch
Calling it the first time in over 25 years that all major record labels backed a new physical format, SanDisk Corporation announced it has lined up more than 40 top artists for this week’s launch of its SlotMusic cards.
SlotMusic cards are microSD cards that come with pre-loaded, DRM-free MP3 music. Because the cards play in a variety of devices, music fans can instantly load music into their microSD slot-enabled cell phones, portable players, computers and even many car stereos.
Artists already available on SlotMusic cards include Coldplay, Weezer, Rihanna, Robin Thicke, Sugarland, Nickelback and Katy Perry, as well as catalog tunes from classic acts such as Elvis Presley and ABBA.
SlotMusic cards will be sold at Wal-Mart and Best Buy in the United States at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $14.99.
