Tattoos + Social D
The first annual Kat Von D and Samsung Mobile Musink Tattoo and Music Festival is scheduled for Jan. 30 and set to hit 25 markets over six weeks, although individual dates are yet to be announced. Musink is inspired by an event that took place in Orange County, Calif., in February, where 15,000 people went to a three-day tattoo fest that included The Used, Tiger Army, Metal Skool and 300 tattoo artists from around the world.
The Musink Festival is expected to visit Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and New York among its stops, with the Tattoo Arena showcasing artists and featuring tattoo sessions, seminars, tattoo contests and autograph signings.
The festival’s namesake, Kat Von D, will be at every date signing her forthcoming book, “High Voltage Tattoo.” It features images and stories about celebrities and athletes as well as a 10-page spread detailing Ms. Von D’s tattoos, head to foot.
It’s fitting for Social D to be a part of the inaugural event.
“Tattoos have always been a very personal thing to me and I never thought Social Distortion would have the opportunity to do an event like this,” Mike Ness said. “I can definitely say that we’re stoked to be a part of it. I mean, I can play every night and get tattooed by some of the best artists in the world during the day. Seriously, what goes better than rock ‘n’ roll and tattoos?”
Motorhead is expected to be on all dates, promoting the band’s latest album, Motorizer. More artists should be announced in the coming weeks.
The festival is produced by Kat Von D, Hootenanny Festival producer Bill Hardie, Rockstar Taste of Chaos co-producer John Reese and CAA’s Darryl Eaton.
