Morning Thread: Criminal Cruelty?

One Colorado judge seems to have found a way to cut recividism rates for noise ordinance violators by requiring them to sit and listen to a little music for an hour.

The music includes songs by Barry Manilow, Barney the Dinosaur and the Platters’ “Only You,” reports the Rocky Mountain News.

“These people should have to listen to music they don’t like,” Fort Lupton Municipal Judge Paul Sacco said during a news segment on Denver’s KUSA-TV. “Most kids don’t want to hear somebody like Glenn Close trying to sing opera.”

Sacco began the program several years ago when he noticed many kids paying their fines in cash and coming back as repeat offenders. So four times a year, the judge holds a sort of “crappy music court” – an hour of music the boom-box set would normally avoid.

We at Pollstar have been known to voluntarily submit to several hours of unfortunate music at a time, from William Shatner listening parties to critiques of the collected works of The Shaggs.

What horrific music would you recommend for Judge Sacco to play for his courtroom miscreants? Let us know in comments!
