Music The Most Lively

Contemporary music is the biggest revenue-earner of Australia’s $1.2 billion live sector, according to Live Performance Australia’s Ticket Attendance and Revenue Survey 2006 and 2007.

It made up 40 percent of earnings, compared with musical theatre (19), theatre (10) and special events (10).

There was a 38.8 percent increase in revenue during 2006, and a further 6.1 percent increase during 2007, when it reached $1.23 billion.

Ticket sales grew by 25 percent during 2006 to 19.8 million, with further growth of 5.3 percent during 2007 with 20.9 million tickets sold to live events.
