New Arena For Wellington

The city of Wellington, New Zealand, is looking into building a new mid-sized indoor concert venue at a cost of NZ$100 million ($53.5 million).

A study it commissioned found it missed out on millions of dollars in revenue because it did not have a 10,000-capacity room.

Its biggest indoor venue is the 5,000-capacity TSB Bank Arena. As a result, international acts head to Auckland’s 12,000-seat Vector Arena.

Concert promoter Phil Sprey said the proposed venue would allow NZ promoters to offer international acts a network to include the 8,500-capacity Westpac Arena in Christchurch and Vector Arena.
