Coldplay Outsells Expectations

Promoter Michael Chugg of Sydney-based Chugg Entertainment was confident that Coldplay’s March tour would outsell the 100,000 tickets it moved on its last visit downunder.

Chugg was so sure that he put two shows in each city on sale at the same time. In the first week, 120,000 tickets were sold, with even more shows hastily added in cities including Sydney and Melbourne.

At last count, the figure was up to 150,000 tickets.

Chugg Entertainment also announced a New Zealand date at Auckland’s Vector Arena for March 18.

“We always knew the market was out there,” Chugg told Pollstar. “The last Australian tour sold house records, and a lot of people missed out. The reports from their shows overseas is that Coldplay are twice as good as last time.”
