Evansville Arena Plan

An advisory board in Evansville, Ind., voted Dec. 16 to go forward with a plan to build an 11,000-capacity arena that would replace the SMG-managed Roberts Stadium by 2011.

The Roberts Stadium Advisory Board, comprising city business and labor leaders, agreed to back a plan to replace the aging, 12,252-capacity venue instead of pumping more dollars into renovations, according to the Evansville Courier & Press.

The proposal still needs to be presented to the city council for a vote. If approved, the project could break ground in summer 2009 with a goal of opening in two years.
