Dane Cook’s Brother Arrested

Darryl McCauley, the older half-brother and business manager of comedian Dane Cook, has been charged with stealing millions from his famous sibling.

McCauley, 43, was arrested at his Wilmington, Mass., home by State Police Dec. 30 and charged with larceny, forgery and larceny by continuous scheme, according to the Boston Globe.

The state attorney general’s office, which investigated the case, would not identify McCauley as the brother of the Massachusetts-based comedian, only saying McCauley stole from a national entertainer with local ties, the Globe said.

Hower, according to the AG’s office, the investigation began two weeks after Cook and a lawyer filed a complaint, and McCauley has been Cook’s business manager since the early ’90s, according to the paper. McCauley and Cook ended their business relations earlier this month.

Promoter Bill Blumenreich, a friend of the comedian who runs the Comedy Connection in Chicopee and has promoted several of Cook’s tours, told the paper he was surprised by the arrest, adding that he learned a month ago that McCauley had been fired but wasn’t sure why.

“It’s just very unfortunate, very shocking,” Blumenreich told the Globe. He added that Cook kept his family close and McCauley sincerely seemed to help the comedian. Blumenreich did not return a call from Pollstar seeking further comment at press time.

McCauley had been with Cook since the beginning of the comedian’s career, selling merch and handling the e-mail list and Web site, the paper noted. He is also a subject of one of Cook’s routines, where Cook recalls his days working at Burger King when McCauley was the manager.
