Hudson Murder Suspect Enters Plea
Jennifer Hudson’s estranged brother-in-law entered a plea of not guilty Jan. 21 in a Cook County courtroom to charges he allegedly shot and killed the performer’s mother, brother and nephew.
William Balfour, 27, entered the not-guilty plea to charges of first-degree murder and home invasion stemming from the October shooting deaths of Hudson’s mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson, brother Jason Hudson and nephew Julian King.
Prosecutors claim Balfour killed the three in a jealous rage because his estranged wife, Julia Hudson, was dating another man.
The bodies of Donerson and Jason Hudson were discovered Oct. 24 at the family’s home in south Chicago. The body of 7-year-old King was found several days later inside an SUV on the west side of the city.
Balfour is scheduled to return to court Jan. 27.
Hudson is expected to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl Feb. 1 and is up for four awards at the Feb. 8 Grammys Awards.
