Dan Auerbach Flies Solo (Sort Of)
Auerbach kicks off the club trek Feb. 28 at 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., and will make his way across the country through mid-March.
Other lucky venues on the itinerary include Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn (March 2), Metro/Smart Bar in Chicago (March 6), Showbox at The Market in Seattle (March 10) and El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles (March 14).
Support for the trek comes courtesy of Hacienda – an Austin band Auerbach has long admired – as well as Those Darlins. Hacienda will also be his backing band on the tour.
Solo project is kind of a misnomer for Hid, which is due out Feb. 10. The album was self-produced and -recorded by Auerbach, who abandoned The Black Keys’ “two-man stomp” and cut the album with a full band at his new studio Akron Analog.
Working with engineer Mark Neill, the singer used analog gear to record and mix the disc, giving tracks like “I Want Some More,” “Trouble Weighs a Ton” and “My Last Mistake” a vintage feel.
“It’s all just soul music,” he said of the album.
