Festival Drug Bins

“Amnesty drug bins” will be introduced at West Australian festivals in March, giving patrons an opportunity to dump their stash before entering.

Visitors would not be prosecuted, said Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan.

The idea follows the death of 17-year-old hairdresser Gemma Thoms, who died after Big Day Out’s Perth stop. In an effort to avoid drug-sniffing dogs at the gates, Thoms swallowed three ecstasy tablets and later died while hospitalized.
