John Sayles Joins “Scar Tissue” Team

John Sayles has been chosen to write HBO’s new series, tentatively titled “Scar Tissue,” the story of Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis’ childhood and adventures growing up with his father in West Hollywood, Calif.

Sayles is responsible for writing pictures such as “Honeydripper,” “Silver City,” “Sunshine State” and “Lone Star,” according to Variety.

An enthusiastic Anthony Kiedis is still in his Friday casuals when the Red Hot Chili Peppers play Hyde Park in London.

While writing the script he has been meeting with Kiedis and Kiedis’ father.

“John writes from a real human place, and has already tapped into the relationship between young Anthony and his dad,” said Marc Abrams, who along with his Catapult 360 partner Michael Benson, collaborated with Kiedis to create the series.

Catapult 360 contacted the Chili Peppers frontman after Benson read the singer’s autobiography, also titled “Scar Tissue” – although the show is not based on the book.

The show, which is being developed as an hour-long drama with comedic elements, will kick off with Kiedis moving from Grand Rapids, Mich., to West Hollywood to live with his dad, according to Variety.

“Scar Tissue” will also focus on Los Angeles in the early 1970s, including the rock stars that Kiedis and his father bumped elbows with. Kiedis’ father, known as Spider, had dreams of breaking into showbiz and was rumored to have once been a drug dealer for acts like The Who and Led Zeppelin.
