Reunion Arena No More

The Reunion Arena will soon be no more.

The Dallas City Council recently approved a $2.1 million contract to demolish the 29-year-old venue, according to the Dallas Morning News.

“This is great, great, great,” council member Mitchell Rasansky told the paper, noting the cost of demolition was much lower than originally expected.

While some councilors had previously floated the idea of studying whether the venue could be repurposed, it appears it was just too late for the city-owned arena, which began hemorrhaging money following the opening of the American Airlines Center in 2001.

The venue will be torn down piece-by-piece in a yearlong process, the paper said.
