Byron Bay Clamps Down On Festivals

Wanting to shake off its “party town image,” picturesque Byron Bay’s council plans to clamp down on its festivals.

A draft change to its Tourism Management Plan will allow only two big festivals per year – presumably Bluesfest and Splendour in The Grass.

Other events will be limited to 16,500 patrons and festivals banned during the summer period when tourists double Byron’s population.

Bluesfest owner Peter Noble hit out at council’s failure to consult with the arts sector.
