StubHub isn’t running a sale on Springsteen tickets. Instead, it issued a press release stating someone listed $10 tickets for Springsteen’s May 2 show in Greensboro, NC, at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The person-to-person ticketing site also said, “several cities along the tour have been seeing similar sales with premium tickets available on the site for well below face value.”

Many of the tickets offered for sale on StubHub for Sprinsteen’s Greensboro date are listed below the original box office price. However, those $10 seats StubHub is bragging about were in the upper-most deck and were originally priced at $29, making for a $19 discount. Other markdowns were similar with tickets originally sold for $65 and $95 marked down to prices ranging from $40 to $70.

Furthermore, some tickets for Springsteen’s Greensboro show are listed at above box office price, such as a few general admission floor tickets offered for $118 each.

Regarding Springsteen, StubHub says it has seen offers similar to the $10 Greensboro tix for other stops on the current our. Sure enough, a quick look at the site shows a few tickets for May 12 at Chicago’s United Center listing for $39 each. People jumping on that deal might want to take a bottle of oxygen along to the show. The seats are up near the rafters.

The StubHub press release detailing $10 Springsteen tickets points out that not all listings on the secondary ticketing service are priced above box office and that several deals are there for the taking. Okay. True enough.

But what it doesn’t mention is that secondary ticket prices often drop as the concert date approaches, much like the guy standing outside the venue who reduces his ticket prices by as much as 75 percent once the show starts.

Furthermore, many Springsteen fans are somewhat altruistic when it comes to unloading extra tickets, and have been known to resell ducats for box office price or even lower – saying they’d rather see someone else enjoy a night with the New Jersey rocker rather than sell the tickets at a profit.

Truth is, you will find some deals on Springsteen tickets on StubHub. However, you’ll also find some bargains elsewhere on the Net. That is, if you look hard enough.
