Slimmer Richmond Folk

The Richmond Folk Festival is not going away – it’s just getting leaner.

The Virginia fest debuted last year in place of the National Folk Festival, which made Richmond its home from 2005 to 2007, with record-breaking attendance.

Organizers in the city created the Richmond Folk Festival to keep folk music in the streets, and 185,000 people came to downtown Richmond last year.

Although the economy has since soured, Lisa Sims, director of organizer Venture Richmond says talks with sponsors yielded the decision to go ahead with the event.
