Buddy’s Blues

Buddy Guy was the big winner at the 30th annual Blues Music Awards, taking three top trophies.

Guy won contemporary blues album of the year for Skin Deep, contemporary blues male artist and album of the year. The awards show was held at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis May 7.

Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials won band honors, and the late Jeff Healey was honored with rock blues album of the year for Mess of Blues. B.B. King got the traditional blues album award for One Kind Favor and the traditional blues male artist award. Koko Taylor won the female equivalent.

Janiva Magness was named contemporary blues female artist and Irma Thomas won soul blues album for Simply Grand. Etta James was named soul blues female artist of the year and Bobby Rush won the male category.
