AC/DC Smashes Downunder Record

AC/DC shifted 500,000 tickets May 25 in first-day sales for the band’s February dates, according to organizers.

The first shows, in Sydney’s ANZ Stadium and Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium, sold out in 15 minutes, while Perth’s Subiaco Oval went in seven minutes.

The tour’s Australian and New Zealand promoters are Garry Van Egmond and Chugg Entertainment.

By the end of trading, the initial five shows were extended to 11.

Van Egmond says no more dates can be added, as the band is committed to Japanese dates immediately after.

New Zealand shows, to be announced shortly, will add a further 200,000 to the ticket tally.

The February shows are AC/DC’s sixth tour for Van Egmond in the last 26 years.

The band’s most recent Australian tour, in 2001, shifted 180,000 tickets.
