I Got A Lawsuit Babe
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday, claims that Cher and Sonny Bono’s widow and children are owed royalties for songs included in a number of recent Sonny & Cher greatest-hits compilations. The diva also points a finger at UMG for failing to keep records showing how much is actually owed.
The husband and wife duo released eight albums between 1965 and 1974 as Sonny & Cher.
The singers were married for nearly 10 years before divorcing in 1975. After the divorce, Bono entered into politics and was elected as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Bono died due to injuries from a ski accident in 1998. His heirs include his wife Mary Whitaker and four daughters.
Cher is performing a residency at The Colosseum At Caesars Palace in Las Vegas with dates on the books through December.
UMG spokesman Peter LoFrumento said Cher’s lawsuit is “without merit.”
