Japanese Girl Group Speed Reunites

Speed, the most popular all-girl pop idol group in Japan in the 1990s, has announced a nationwide tour starting in September.

The quartet broke up in 2000, though they did reunite in 2003 for a one-off charity event.

The group’s management has announced that the reunion is permanent and that the group has already released a new single, “S.P.D.,” which marks the first time it has hired non-Japanese writers, namely Kye Sones, Peter Martin and Jonathan Shave.

A reconfigured greatest hits album is scheduled for August in advance of the tour, which will be sponsored by the convenience store chain Family Mart and begins in Nagoya Sept. 5.

Tour stops include Osaka Castle Hall and Budokan.
