Chris Brown Pleads Guilty

Chris Brown pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault against fellow R&B pop singer and former girlfriend Rihanna.

The plea was entered prior to a preliminary hearing that was scheduled to start today in Los Angeles. Rihanna was expected to testify as a witness at the preliminary hearing.

Brown was arrested Feb. 8 for beating up Rihanna during an argument while driving home from Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy Awards party.

The 20-year-old singer was accused of punching Rihanna, 21, biting her, putting her in a headlock and threatening to kill her, according to detective’s notes from the scene of the assault.

Brown had previously pleaded not guilty April 6 after being charged with two felonies – assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and making criminal threats.

He is now in the process of waiving his rights. Brown’s attorney said that in exchange for pleading guilty, the deal includes five years of supervised probation and six months of community labor.

Brown will be allowed to check off his community service hours in his home state of Virginia, returning to California for updates every three months.
