Get Poetic With Björk!

The always-innovative Björk is preparing to release “Voltaic: The Volta Tour,” a detailed documentation of her two-year tour in support of 2007’s “Volta,” and we’re giving you a chance to get in on the creativity.

Voltaic, which is due to drop June 30, features 11 songs recorded live at Olympic Studios, concert footage from Paris and Reyjkjavic, tons of tour extras, videos and remixes.

The package will be available in five different physical configurations: CD (containing only the Olympic Studio session), CD+DVD (containing the Volta Tour Live DVD and the Olympic Studio session on CD), Deluxe Edition in Standard/Limited Edition versions (containing 2 CDs and 2 DVDs) and a Deluxe Vinyl Edition (2 LPs and 2 DVDs). An mp3 download version will also be available.

To celebrate the release, the Paris concert from Voltaic will be screened across the country between now and the release date, with showings in New York City; Los Angeles; Madison, Wis.; Oxford, Miss.; Lake Geneva, Wis.; Minneapolis; Seattle; San Francisco; Bellingham, Wash.; New Orleans and Austin.

Complete details on venues and showtimes are available at CinemaPurgatorio.com.

Thanks to our friends at Sneak Attack Media, we’ve been able to get our hands on two copies of the Deluxe Edition (2-CD/2-DVD) version of the release to award to a pair of lucky winners.

So here’s where you get a chance to get really creative. We want you to write a Björk-inspired haiku. The two best entries will be picked by our blue-ribbon panel of Pollstar judges (just don’t tell anyone they won the blue ribbons for 4-H).

For those of you not familiar with haiku, it’s a non-rhyming poem consisting of 17 syllables. The typical format is three lines long with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second and five in the third. There’s a much more technical explanation here, but that’s the general idea.

To get you started, here are five examples from RockAndRollConfidential.com inspired by the trials and tribulations of local bands:

Forty people showed,
but we didn’t make money.
They were on the list.

I love you so much
your name will be on the disc.
Thank you for the loan.

Guess who’s coming here!
The guy who signed Glass Tiger!
I hope he digs us!

People are asking
where they can buy our new disc.
We need to burn more.

After the bar tab,
we each made fifteen dollars
Rock and f***ing roll!

Got the idea? Good. Now go to it. Let Björk, her music and her unique sense of style be your muse.

But Bjork’s music is as fashionable as ever at Roskilde in Denmark.

Before you start, let’s get the technical stuff out of the way:

Try to keep it clean (this is basically a family site). Enter as often as you like and please make sure you signed up with a valid email address so we can get your prize to you. And, as always, employees of Pollstar and their families, as well as employees of Björk, her label and her team aren’t eligible to win. The contest runs from now until 10 a.m. PST June 29.

That’s it. Get to it. Björk is counting on you!
