Friday Fun: The Beatles – Rock Or Pop?

As music fans we love our labels. Sure, the purist inside of us always cries out that art cannot be labeled, pigeonholed and categorized, but we do it anyway, often describing a band as rock, country, jazz, pop or whatever.

Then there are the subcategories like new wave, punk, alt-country, smooth jazz, neo-classical-grunge-progressive-polka, and, well, you get the picture.

Which brings us to our little poll for the day. With more than 40 years of hindsight, do you consider The Beatles a rock band? Or do you consider them a fantastic pop band?

Of course, with tracks like “Revolution,” “Come Together” and “Helter Skelter,” the lads sure sounded like a rock band.

On the other hand, “Yesterday,” “Here Comes The Sun” and “All You Need Is Love” might strike listeners as more pop than rock.

So, what do you think? Mull it over, answer the poll below, and if the mood strikes you, leave a few comments. Rock or Pop? You decide.
