Aerosmith Health Report — Bassist Tom Hamilton Sitting Out Shows
Hamilton will miss “some dates” as he recovers from “non-invasive surgery,” according to a statement. The 57-year-old bassist was forced to miss tour dates in 2006 while undergoing a seven-week course of radiation treatment for throat cancer, according to Reuters.
Tonight’s show at Aaron’s Amphitheatre At Lakewood in Atlanta and the rest of the tour is still scheduled to go on as bassist David Hull steps in for Hamilton. Hull is a longtime friend of the band who previously filled in for Hamilton in 2006 and has also played in the Joe Perry Project.
The good news on Aerosmith’s health report is that tonight’s show will once again include guitarist Brad Whitford. This is Whitford’s first gig on the Aerosmith Presents Aerosmith tour since it kicked off June 10. The 57-year-old has spent his time off recovering from emergency surgery after hitting his head while getting out of his Ferrari.
As Pollstar previously reported Aerosmith postponed seven tour dates due to Steven Tyler’s leg injury. The injury occurred during a performance at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., June 28.
Yesterday Tyler’s daughter, model Mia Tyler, wrote a message on her MySpace page writing, “My dad just told me to tell you guys that he pulled a major muscle in his leg and is in a cast till it has healed enough for him to pick up the tour again. He is doing great and is looking forward to getting back out there and doing his thing.”
A statement from the band explained that fans should stay tuned for up-to-date information about the postponed dates by checking out the band’s Web site.
The following dates are being rescheduled: Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati (July 1), Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pa. (July 3), Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre in Virginia Beach, Va. (July 5), Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek in Raleigh, N.C. (July 7), Verizon Wireless Ampitheater in Charlotte, N.C. (July 9), For Amphitheatre in Tampa, Fla. (July 11) and Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. (July 13).
