The Walkmen Dates Keep Marching

In August the indie band treats its hometown of New York to two special shows. The Walkmen are set to perform in Frank Lloyd Wright’s rotunda at the Guggenheim Museum Aug. 14 as part of the museum’s “It Came From Brooklyn” series. The event will also feature readings from Colson Whitehead and comedian Leo Allen sharing some laughs.

Two days later The Walkmen play a free show along with Dinosaur Jr. at NYC’s Central Park SummerStage.

In September the band heads for Scandinavia with shows at Gota Kallare in Stockholm, Sweden (Sept. 1), John Dee in Oslo, Norway (Sept. 2) and Hulen in Bergen, Norway (Sept. 3).

The band will be making the rounds at several fall festivals including Monolith Festival at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colo. (Sept. 12), Austin City Limits at Zilker Park in Texas (Oct. 2) and Treasure Island in San Francisco (Oct. 18).

U.S. dates include two shows at Middle East in Cambridge, Mass. (Sept. 18-19), Theatre of the Living Arts in Philadelphia (Sept. 23), Variety Playhouse in Atlanta (Sept. 25), Mercy Lounge in Nashville (Sept. 27) and One Eyed Jacks in New Orleans (Sept. 30).

Tickets go on sale on the band’s Web site Aug. 1.

If you can’t make it to a show then be sure to check out the band’s upcoming release on iTunes, a live session EP that was recorded this summer at NYC’s Electric Lady Studios. The EP includes live versions of “We’ve Been Had,” “On The Water,” “Over Your Shoulder,” “All Hands And The Cook,” “138th Street” and “In The New Year.” It will be available on iTunes Aug. 11.
