When Less Is More

Cutting back on what had become lengthy guest lists and the army of volunteers meant there were less people at this year’s Skanderborg Festival in Denmark, although it also enabled the festival to sell more tickets before hitting capacity.

“Last year there were so many people that it was ridiculous, particularly when compared to the number of tickets sold,” Skanderborg spokesman Claus Visbye explained, reporting this year’s “Smukfest” (or “happy fest”) shifted 23,000 five-day tickets and a further 3,000 day tickets each day.

Another thing that was missing without being missed from this year’s Skanderborg was wet weather, which has made an umbrella an essential piece of festival equipment in many recent years.

This year was Skanderborg’s 30th anniversary and it appears the party was helped along by a rare festival show from Kylie Minogue.

The other acts on the Smukfest bill Aug. 5-9 included Fatboy Slim, Editors, Thomas Helmig and The Streets.
