350,000 For Crash Victims
More than 17,000 people showed up for a charity concert at Viareggio’s Stadio dei Pini Aug. 19, raising euro 350,000 for the victims of the train crash that hit the Italian city at the end of June.
The event was put together by Italian promoter D’Alessandro & Galli.
Sting, Andrea Bocelli, Zucchero, Jeff Beck, Pino Daniele, Antonello Venditti, and Solomon Burke were among those who gave up their time to perform.
On June 29, a train traveling from Trecate to Gricignano di Aversa derailed at Viareggio station and wagons crashed into houses alongside the railway line.
The crash and the subsequent fire cost the lives of 28 people. A further 26 were injured.
