Williams is following in the footsteps of her idol Hank Williams, who married his second wife onstage in New Orleans, according to Minneapolis / St. Paul newspaper Star Tribune.

Apparently, Williams is quite fond of the club. According to the Star Tribune, the artist did a live Internet broadcast from the venue and spent plenty of time just hanging out while recording her 2001 album Essence at a Twin Cities recording studio.

Plus, her future husband, Tom Overby, has family in the area. Overby’s a former Best Buy executive Williams met five years ago in Los Angeles. These days Overby works as Williams’ manager and co-produced her 2008 effort, Little Honey.

The game plan is for Williams and Overby to marry during the break between the regular set and the encore. Perhaps more unusual than Williams and her man getting married at the club is that it’s not the venue’s first wedding. Members of a couple of local bands were married onstage and the club’s former owner held his own wedding reception at the venue.

“We’re really excited about it,” First Avenue general manager Nate Kranz told the Star Tribune, adding, “We’ve had a lot of awesome shows with Lucinda over the years, but this one will probably be the most memorable.”
