Jewel’s Stalker Says God Made Him Do It
Michael Lawrance Kozelka was arrested after he showed up two days in a row at the Stephenville, Texas, ranch owned by Jewel’s husband, champion rodeo cowboy Ty Murray.
Kozelka first came to the ranch Sept. 14 and was told not to return. He came back to the ranch’s main house the next day, bringing along with him a pocketknife in his clothing and a dog.
Kozelka was then arrested and charged with stalking. If convicted of the felony, he could be jailed for a maximum sentence of 10 years. He is currently being held in jail in Stephenville on a $30,000 bond.
Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant declined to reveal if Kozelka said anything about Jewel or Murray and whether the couple was home at the time.
“He was not aggressive and was not mad,” Bryant told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “He just said he was on a mission from God, that God told him to come to Stephenville and led him to this ranch.”
Bryant said Jewel and Murray, who have lived on the ranch in the dairy community for years, were concerned about publicity regarding the stalker.
Jewel is working on a second book of poetry in addition to her second country album, which marks her eighth studio album over all. Her most recent release was this year’s Lullaby, which included both original songs and covers of popular nursery rhymes and lullabies.
The singer-songwriter’s fall U.S. tour begins Oct. 27 at Lyric Opera House in Baltimore and concludes Nov. 15 at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas.
