Lady Sovereign Spits Up A Storm In Australia
The 23-year-old British rapper, whose real name is Louise Amanda Harman, was thrown out of The Beat nightclub after getting in a fight in the popular gay club’s bathroom, according to the Australian Associated Press newswire. The club is located in Fortitude Valley in Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia.
Lady Sovereign showed the club just how she felt about being kicked out by spitting in the Brisbane bouncer’s face. The rapper was then charged with assault shortly after midnight.
Police told Brisbane Magistrates Court she was “hysterical” when being kicked out of the club and that “emotions got away on her,” according to Agence France-Presse.
Lady Sovereign appeared in court Saturday morning to plead guilty to assault and drunk and disorderly charges, according to Australian Broadcast News.
She was fined $400 dollars (US $348.01) and ordered to pay the bouncer $200 (US$174) compensation.
Magistrate Brendan Butler reprimanded the rapper for spitting, telling her that tossing her saliva at innocent bystanders has “serious health implications.”
Lady Sovereign, who allegedly spit on MC Andrew Bancroft AKA “Jelly Donut” during a January 2007 show, took to her Twitter account to give her side of this year’s spitting incident.
“Brisbane police need to go catch some REAL criminals…..what a waste,” Lady Sov wrote Sept. 26.
She followed that by explaining the back story behind her club antics: “spitting in someones face is nasty, but how about a guy dressed up as a girl running at you in the toilets and punching you in the head?”
To get her point across the rapper took advantage of the caps lock key and added: YES THATS WHAT HAPPENED PRIOR TO THE SPITTING… SO EVERYONE PLEASE STOP CALLING ME NASTY, IF YOU WAS THERE YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND.
“THE TRANSVESTITE MUST OF BEEN A REGULAR BECAUSE I DIDNT SEE NO ONE DRAGGING HIS ASS OUT OF THE CLUB THAT NIGHT.
After clearing up her arrest, Lady Sovereign performed at the Parklife Festival Sept. 26 at Botanic Gardens in Brisbane and Sept. 27 at Wellington Square in Perth.
You can catch Lady Sovereign Saturday, Sunday and next Monday as the Parklife Festival continues in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide.
