Asking Fans For Money

Public Enemy is reaching out to fans for help financing the groundbreaking rap act’s latest album.

The group has hooked up with SellaBand.com to sell 10,000 parts of the album for $25 a piece to raise a total of $250,000. The plan is to use the quarter mil to fund recording costs and expenses as well as to pay for marketing the release.

But it doesn’t stop with $25. Oh, sure, that amount, referred to by Sellaband as the “believer” level will get you a copy of the finished CD, but if you bump up your payment to the $100 “Hype” level you also receive an exclusive numbered CD digipak, your name in the booklet and an opportunity to purchase a second copy of the CD at half price.

But why stop at $100? For $250 you can buy into the “Rebel” level which also includes an exclusive limited edition Public Enemy T-shirt in addition to everything already mentioned.

Then there’s “Posse” level for $500, which adds a copy of the CD autographed by Chuck D. and a $1,000 “Terrordome” level limited to 50 investors which includes everything listed above plus an unlimited use backstage pass for three years.

But wait, there’s more.

The “Bring The Noise” level – priced at $5,000 and limited to 15 investors – gives well-heeled fans executive producer credits, while the $10,000 “PE Number One” level includes everything mentioned plus a studio visit during the recording sessions.

Public Enemy hopes to complete its fan-supported funding efforts by the end of this year. For more information, grab your credit card and click here for Sellaband.com.
