The 2,000 tickets will be distributed via raffle among nearly 17,000 workers who have already lost their jobs, or were told last month their skills will no longer be needed as of Nov. 6.

Saying the tickets are a gift to the unemployed, Estefan bought all the remaining $40 seats in the Coliseo de Puerto Rico’s upper levels. Government officials will handle the distribution.

And the fans sure could use the gift. The U.S. territory is three years deep into an economic recession and currently has a 15 percent unemployment rate. Estefan’s gift to Puerto Ricans won’t bring jobs to the jobless, but it will make one day a little better for the island’s unfortunate workers.
