Beyoncé Too Sexy For Malaysia

Local Islamic conservatives have been complaining about the show, saying the diva’s stage costumes are too revealing.

Malaysian entertainment outfit Marctensia posted a message saying the event “has been postponed to a future date to be announced shortly.”

Although the promoter’s announcement didn’t reference the controversy, the statement placed the blame for the postponement strictly on the diva’s bare shoulders.

“The postponement is solely (the) decision of the artist and has nothing to do with other external reasons,” the statement said.

The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party had been calling for the show’s cancellation, citing Beyoncé’s “western sexy performances.”

This is the second time Beyoncé has dropped a scheduled stop in Malaysia. In 2007 the singer canceled a performance after protests from the opposition Islamic party. At that time, artist representatives blamed the change in plans on scheduling problems.

Beyoncé would have had to make some pretty drastic wardrobe changes for Kuala Lumpur fans. Female performers in the island country are required to cover up their knees to their shoulders, and keep the cleavage under wraps.

Marctensia tried to head off the controversy last month, saying it had spoken with the artist and “all parties have come to an amicable understanding” regarding stage costumes.

Last month the Black Eyed Peas performed in Malaysia even though Islamic organizations protested the concert because of its Guinness sponsorship. The show went on as planned after government officials restricted alcohol sales to non-Muslim areas and Fergie agreed to cover up what God gave her.
