MJ Movie Hits China

Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” opened in China the same day it opened everywhere else in the world, which is significant considering the country’s strict regulations on foreign content.

Tickets for screenings at a 1,100-seat cinema in central Beijing sold out within days of going on sale, according to the China Daily, which quoted a theater spokesman saying no film had ever sold out as quickly.

To commemorate the event a group of MJ impersonators danced and sang on the stage and in the aisles while fans entered for the premiere.

Jackson’s “Heal the World” played over loudspeakers.

Chinese media said that people who bought tickets ranged in age from high school students to at least one person older than 60. Many had traveled to the capital from the countryside just for the movie.

“This Is It” was also being shown in 13 other Chinese cities.
