Odds & Ends: Joel Sick, McCartney Honored

Another Elton John / Billy Joel concert postponed and Paul McCartney gets another honor. It’s all right here in our semi-regular feature dedicated to random bits of news and information.

Elton John fans already know their hero has been ailing as of late. The piano-pounding superstar landed on the sick list three weeks ago, forcing him to reschedule some U.K. dates.

Eventually John was forced to reschedule a few U.S. Face2Face dates he was co-headlining with Billy Joel. Now another Face2Face gig has been postponed, but this time promoters aren’t blaming it on John’s latest medical misadventure.

Instead, Live Nation and Another Planet say it’s Joel’s own poor health that caused tomorrow night’s gig at the HP Pavilion in San Jose to be postponed.

According to EltonJohn.com and the HP Pavilion’s Web site, ticket holders are advised to hang on to their ducats and that a new date will be announced shortly.

Librarian of Congress James Billington announced the price today, saying it’s hard to think of another performer and songwriter having a bigger effect than Sir Paul.

Billington also said an all-star concert is planned for early 2010, but the librarian did not announce a lineup. Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon are former Gershwin Prize recipients.
