Odds & Ends: Jennifer Lopez, John Mellencamp and Michael Jackson

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, along comes a company selling cologne based on Michael Jackson’s DNA. In other tidbits, it doesn’t look as if we’re going to see home videos starring Jennifer Lopez anytime soon, and John Mellencamp’s son enlists Facebook to help his pop quit smoking.

King of POP DNA

A company called “My DNA Fragrance” doesn’t promise you’ll smell like Michael Jackson, but you can wear cologne based on the Moonwalker’s DNA.

My DNA Fragrance markets an “Antiquity” fragrance collection featuring colognes engineered from DNA belonging to various celebs who have gone to the great beyond. Along with Jackson’s DNA-based cologne, the company offers scents designed from the genetic codes of celebs such as Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford, Elvis Presley and Albert Einstein.

To collect the DNA, the company turned to John Reznikoff, who is reputed to own the largest collection of authenticated celebrity hair in existence. Chances are, if you need a sample of a famous person’s hair, Reznikoff is your go-to guy.

Apparently this isn’t the first product based on Jackson’s DNA. Earlier this year, an outfit called LifeGem was offering diamonds made from the singer’s DNA. As in the My DNA Fragrance cologne, the DNA came from Jackson’s hair collected by, you guessed it, Reznikoff.

According to My DNA Fragrance, celebrity DNA itself isn’t in any of the company’s products, but is used as part of the design “blueprints” for making the scents. If that’s good enough for you, click here for the scoop on how you can own a three-ounce bottle of the cologne – called “M” – for $60.

Judge Keeps Ban on Lopez Home Vids

First of all, we should mention that the home videos in question do not contain any sexual situations.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James C. Chalfant said he will issue a preliminary injunction today preventing Jennifer Lopez’s ex-husband Ojani Noa and his manager Ed Meyer from releasing home videos shot more than 10 years ago.

Lopez and Noa were married in 1997 but the union lasted 11 months. Lopez recently sued Noa and Meyer for $10 million, claiming her ex was violating the terms of the couple’s divorce and confidentiality agreement by attempting to release the videos, reported to amount to 11 hours of home movie action.

The preliminary injunction will remain in effect until the lawsuit is resolved.

Mellencamp’s Son Turns To Facebook To Help Dad Quit Habit

John Mellencamp fans know about the Indiana rocker’s many attempts to quit smoking. Even a 1994 heart attack didn’t convince the “Hurts So Good” singer to toss the butts in favor of fresh air, better breath and a healthier life.

Now Mellencamp’s 14-year-old son is attempting to help his dad quit the nicotine. Speck Mellencamp says his dad promises to quit smoking if 1 million people join his Facebook group, which is appropriately called “1,000,000 to join, my dad john mellencamp will quit smoking.”
