Hallyday Goes After Surgeon

The saga of Johnny Hallyday’s medical problems took a legal turn yesterday as the French rocker and his wife filed proceedings against the Paris surgeon who operated on his back.

Hallyday underwent surgery in Paris last month for a herniated disc. Last week doctors in Los Angeles put him under the scalpel in an attempt to remedy complications from the November operation. The 66-year-old singer, considered to be France’s greatest rock star, was then placed in a medically induced coma. He was awakened from the coma Tuesday.

The recent medical problems caused Hallyday to cancel his world tour, dubbed “Route 66” in reference to the singer’s age and the spirit of American rock ‘n’ roll.

Now Hallyday and his wife have filed legal proceedings against the surgeon who operated on him in France – Dr. Stephane Delajoux and the Paris clinic.

The Hallydays are asking the justice system to name a committee of medical experts to decide if the surgery was performed correctly. A hearing is scheduled for Monday.
