Sources in the prefectural government of Tokyo suburb Saitama told Kyodo News the number of people visiting the John Lennon Museum, which is located in the Saitama Super Arena complex, has been dwindling in recent years.

The museum is managed by Taisei Corp., a major Japanese construction company.

The company has refused to comment on the matter publicly because of a confidentiality agreement between Taisei and Ono, but sources in the prefectural government have said that a Taisei representative informally told them they were considering closing the facility.

Taisei’s contract with Ono ends in October 2010, exactly 10 years after the museum opened Oct. 9, 2000, which would have been John Lennon’s 60th birthday.

The Super Arena is owned by the prefecture, while the museum itself is run by Museum Taisei, a subsidiary of the construction company.

The museum has exhibits of Lennon memorabilia, including guitars, costumes, eyewear, notebooks and photos of Lennon and Ono and their son Sean.
