Theatre Attendance Down

The emergence of the Internet, cuts in arts education and less free time are all contributing to a decline in theater, museum and concert attendance, according to a recent study by the National Endowment of the Arts.

The federal agency found that between 2002 and 2008, attendance at classical music concerts fell from 72.8 to 60.4 percent of adults who were polled and attendance at jazz concerts dropped from 10.8 percent to 7.8 percent.

There was a bright point in the survey, however. Classic rock / oldies and country music were scored highest by respondents.
