Madonna To Direct King Edward Biopic

Acting in movies hasn’t exactly been Madonna’s forte, what with the Material Girl racking up more misses than hits, including “Shanghai Surprise,” “Swept Away” and “Body Of Evidence.” So you couldn’t blame her for wanting to step behind the camera.

Variety reports that Maddy has been selected to direct “W.E.” a film about Edward VIII, the King of England who in 1936 abdicated his throne for the woman he loved – American divorcee Wallis Simpson.

“W.E.” won’t be Madonna’s first attempt at directing. That was “Filth And Wisdom,” the 2008 flick about a Ukrainian immigrant who attempts to finance his quest for rock ‘n’ roll fame by moonlighting as a cross-dressing dominatrix. The film prompted some critics to suggest that Madonna should hang on to her day job.

Madonna is reportedly also writing the script for “W.E.” with Alex Keshishian, who directed “Truth Or Dare,” the 1991 documentary chronicling her 1990 “Blond Ambition” tour.
