Jackson’s Nipple Slip And J5 Reunion Plans
The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia will take a look at the Federal Communications Commission’s fine against CBS for Jackson’s infamous nipple slip that occurred during the Super Bowl halftime show in 2004.
The FCC fined CBS $550,000 for the one-second display of Jackson’s right nipple, partially covered by a nipple clamp, which occurred when her singing partner, Justin Timberlake, ripped her top open at the end of the performance. Saying the Commission acted arbitrarily and capriciously, a lower court tossed out the fine in 2008.
Then the Supreme Court got into the act, ordering the lower court to consider reinstating the fine. This followed a ruling by the court saying the FCC could institute fines even for briefest instances of obscenities.
But while Jackson’s breast exposure heads back into the legal system, brother Jermaine is reportedly claiming Janet will be part of a Jackson 5 world tour, according to Britain’s Daily Express newspaper.
“We had a conference call and Janet has agreed to join us on tour,” Jermaine said.
But Jermaine says a lot of things. Last September he said a star-studded tribute to Michael Jackson would take place in Vienna, Austria, and would include appearances by Chris Brown, Natalie Cole and Mary J. Blige. But those plans quickly unraveled when press reports claimed none of the a-listers had agreed to appear.
Then the tribute was rescheduled, moving to London where it was supposed to take place in June 2010. But those plans vanished into the ether in December when Jermaine’s tribute partner –World Tribute Productions GmbH – filed for bankruptcy. So we’ll just have to wait and see if Jermaine’s latest announcement becomes reality.
