Browne, Lindley Announce Europe, U.S. Tour

One of the most respected singer/songwriters to emerge from the 1970s Southern California music community will tour with the owner of what just might be the world’s largest collection of cheap guitars as Jackson Browne and David Lindley announce dates ranging from early June to mid-August.

The mere mention of Browne and Lindley in the same sentence often reminds people of Browne’s 1977 album – Running On Empty – where Lindley contributed one of the vocals on the disc’s last song – “Stay.” Browne segues into the song following his ode to roadies – “The Loadout” – and is first joined on the “Oh, won’t you stay…” refrain by singer Rosemary Butler, before Lindley contributes his famous falsetto to the song.

Lindley, who has a rep as an aficionado of cheap musical instruments, also headed up El Rayo-X during the early ‘80s which resulted in three albums and a hit single – his syncopated version of K.C. Douglas’ and Bob Geddins’ “Mercury Blues.”

The last time Browne and Lindley toured together was for a series of shows in Spain during 2006, which resulted in the upcoming live album En Vivo Con Tino. In the liner notes for the album, Browne writes, “Why had I not thought of this before? Take him where he doesn’t speak the language and he will have to leave the gig and come with you to the restaurant, or to the club. This was an unexpected strategy breakthrough in a pursuit that for a legion of friends, disciples and admirers has become known as ‘stalking the wild Lindley.’”

En Vivo Con Tino will be released May 11.

The Browne / Lindley tour begins in the U.K., starting off in Bristol June 3 at Colston Hall, followed by Sheffield (June 4) and Gateshead (June 6) before playing London’s Hampton Court Palace June 8.

Then they head to the continent, where the first show is in Amsterdam at the HMH June 9. Other Euro stops include Stockholm (June 11); Hamburg (June 15) and Paris (June 18) before going back to the U.K. to play Glasgow (June 20); Edinburgh (June 21); Cork, Ireland (June 23); London (June 29); Nottingham (July 1) and Liverpool (July 2).

The U.S. leg begins in Las Vegas at The Joint July 20, followed by San Diego at Humphrey’s July 21, L.A. at the Greek Theatre July 23 and Berkeley at the Greek July 24. Other cities on the routing include Eugene, Ore. (July 27); Boise, Idaho (Aug. 2); Denver (Aug. 5); Kansas City (Aug. 8); St. Louis (Aug. 10) and Tulsa (Aug. 11). Last stop is Atlanta at Chastain Park Amphitheatre Aug. 15.
